Padraig ParkinsonThe results from the first ever Pokerstars UKIPT event are in and it’s Padraig Parkinson who has taken down the 125,000 euro first place prize money. The tournament started with a field of 259 runners which made the total prize pool 471,400 euros. A assize 116 of the total field qualified online at Pokerstars via the many UKIPT satellites they have been running. Padraig bought straight into the event for 2,000 euros and we’re pretty sure he’s pleased he did.

After winning the tournament Padraig was clearly very emotional and later stated that the victory actually had his close to tears. “There’s nothing like winning in Ireland for an Irish” said Padraig as he spoke to Pokerstars after the completion of the final table. Padraig Parkinson is actually from Galway originally which makes the victory even more special for the Irish poker legend.

Padraig beat Paul Marrow into second place after their heads up battle. Paul walked away with a cool 82,000 euros so we’re pretty sure he’s pleased with his efforts and will be having an awesome Christmas this year! The final table finishers look like this:

1. Padraig Parkingson – 125,000 euros
2. Paul Marrow – 82,000 euros
3. Ben Legew – 52,000 euros
4. Michael Graydon – 36,000 euros
5. Michael McFadgen – 22,000 euros
6. Paul Dooley – 17,000 euros
7. Vincent Cosgrove – 13,000 euros
8. Cat O Neill – 11,000 euros
9. Trevor Bulless – 9,000 euros

36 players were paid in total and of the players who cashed 15 were from Ireland and 10 out of the 36 who got paid qualified online at Pokerstars.com. The next UKIPT event on the calendar is in Manchester and starts on the 11th of Feb 2010. The buy in will be £500 and the venue is the G Casino. The field will be capped at 300 runners.

Padraig Parkinson will surely be playing as many UKIPT events and now sits top of the UKIPT leader board, there’s still a long way to go though. Parkinson isn’t just a no limit Holdem specialist having won tournaments in Omaha, HO and Dealers choice (including Badugi Poker). His biggest win to date came in the 1999 WSOP $10,000 main event in which he took down a whopping $489,125 for his third place finish.

Pokerstars are really pushing the UKIPT now and it looks like it’s going to be a huge success. We’ve only heard good things about the UKIPT event in Galway and we are sure the rest of the tour will live up to our high expectations. Expect the UKIPT to become the major poker tour in the UK and Ireland over the coming year.
