Longtime poker pro Hoyt Corkins captured his second World Poker Tour championship this week after outlasting a strong field in the Southern Poker Championship Main Event and was able to outlast Jonathan Kantor in the heads-up duel. Corkins is one of the unsung poker pros on the tournament trail, who seems better known for his run-ins with Phil Hellmuth –who considers Corkins some kind of luckbox—and his signature cowboy hat

The eight members of the Aussie Million final table are set and poker pro Sorel Mizzi is dominating the field with an astounding 6 million chips! Consider that the next closest competitor, Tyrone Krost has only 1.8 million, it looks like this is Sorel’s tournament to win or lose. The Southern Poker Championship is one of my favorite WPT stops –even though this is only the third year of the event—for one simple reason: The tournament has a simple 4-day format. No unnecessary flights for Day-1 play, no unnecessary 5th, 6th, or 7th day to draw out play, the Southern Poker Championship has none of this; it’s just a poker tournament. Last year’s event saw 283 players compete for a first-prize of just over $1 million, which was takenRead Full Article

2008 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Peter Eastgate has had his struggles since his monster win, but the young poker superstar has found his way to the EPT Deauville final table. Eastgate has some stiff competition at the final table, with former EPT champion Mike McDonald –who is even younger than Eastgate at 20 years-old– and a bevy of young poker professionals from all over the globe. Eastgate, at 24,Read Full Article
