Epic Poker League Pro/Am falls short of 100 entrants

The inaugural Epic Poker League tournament series exceeded expectations in August, with both the Pro/Am drawing enough entrants to not only award nine Main Event seats but for some added prize-money as well, and the main Event exceeding the 120 entrants that tournament organizers set as the metric of success.

However, the second showing for the Pro/Am this weekend saw a major decline in attendance, although this was actually expected as most of the major tournaments at this time of the year are across the pond in Europe. In all, a total of 97 players registered for the Epic Poker League Pro/Am over the two starting days, leaving the EPL on the hook for an added $50k in prize-money to award the nine $20,000 buy-in Main Event seats.

During the two starting days a total of 20 players were able to advance to the final day of the tournament scheduled for Monday, and the list of players in contention is quite impressive:

Day 1a: Phil Hellmuth, Rep Porter, Matt Marafioti, Brandon Meyers, Russell Rosenblum, Christian Harder, Jamie Kaplan, Orson Young and Jeremy Ausmus.

Day 1b: Greg Mueller, Ryan Young, Tim West, Sean Getzwiller, Nam Le, Andreas Hoivold, Jeremiah DeGreef, JJ Liu, Brent Roberts and Michael Divita.

It will be interesting to see how the Epic Poker league Main Event fares after being faced with its first adversity since beginning last month.
