282 players kick off Season 8 of the EPT in Tallinn

After two starting days the first tournament on Season 8 of the European Poker Tour in Tallin, Estonia attracted a total of 282 players; a far cry from the 420 players who turned out for the same event last year.

This marks the second straight major European tournament that has seen an abysmal turnout, with the WPT Slovenia attracting just 142 entrants a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully the trend will come to a screeching halt as the EPT gets into the crux of its Season 8 schedule in less out-of-the-way locales.

Day 1a of the EPT Tallinn Main Event saw a mere 92 players register, while Day 1b produced a more respectable field of 190 entrants. Even though attendance is down, there are still a number of high-profile names in the field including Roberto Romanello, Praz Bansi, David Vamplew, Martin Jacobson and Rupert Elder who all participated on Day 1a. Day 1b has seen the likes of Dario Minieri, Ville Wahlbeck, Luca Pagano, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Jani Sointula, Juha Helpi, Sami Kelopuro, Toby Lewis, Anton Ionel, Annette Obrestad and JP Kelly all take their seats at the poker tables.

Also in the field is last year’s champion Kevin Stani, but through four levels of play on Day 1b he has chipped up a little bit before seeing his stack stagnate at 20,000 chips –could Stani become the first ever repeat winner on the EPT?
