3 former Champs amongst final 24 players EPT Berlin

With nearly eight full seasons under its belt the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) has yet to have a single repeat winner. However, all that could very well change in the next couple of days as three former EPT Champions are still in the hunt for the EPT Berlin crown, with just 24 players remaining in the tournament.

Vladimir Geshkenbein

Geshkenbein is a member of Team PKR Pro, and the young Russian has definitely come through for his sponsor. “Beyne” has won a High-Roller tournament on the APT (beating Johnny Chan in heads-up play to win the tournament), is the Season 7 EPT Snowfest Champion, and made a very deep run at the 2011 WSOP Main Event where he bowed out in 106th place. Geshkenbein has already won over $1 million in live tournaments, not too bad for a 23 year-old.

Anton Wigg

The Swedish poker pro Wigg was the Season 6 EPT Copenhagen Champion, but Wigg’s resume is a lot longer than just that one title, considering he is just as proficient at the cash-game tables as he is at a tournament table. With over $1.3 million in career tournament earnings Wigg is considered one of the top young poker pros in Europe, a place that a second EPT title would surely cement.

Kevin MacPhee

MacPhee won the inaugural EPT Berlin tournament in 2010, the year the brazen robbery took place and overshadowed MacPhee’s victory. Since then MacPhee has been one of the most consistent players on the European Circuit. MacPhee has pocketed over $2 million in career tournament earnings since 2008, and is rumored to be involved with Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree, making him the envy of many male poker players.

The three will definitely have their work cut out for them, as the remaining field also contains notable poker players like all-time Belgian money-leader David Kitai, online sensation Andrew Chen, as well as chip-leader marc Wright, who dominated action and had he not lost a big pot towards the end of play would be even farther ahead of the rest of the field.

Here is a look at the Top 10 chip-counts heading into Day 4 of the PokerStars EPT Berlin:

1. Marc Wright — 2,400,000

2. Thomas Cibak — 2,311,000

3. Andrew Chen — 1,827,000

4. Florian Dohnert — 1,270,000

5. Jordi Riba Corrons — 1,265,000

6. Andreas Vlachos — 1,140,000

7. Bahadir Kilickeser — 1,114,000

8. Pratyush Buddiga — 1,110,000

9. Cesar Garcia Domínguez — 1,099,000

10. Vladimir Geshkenbein –1,053,000

The remaining players will return to the tables at Noon local time, where they will play down to the official final table of just eight players. When play resumes the players will find themselves in Level 22 with 8,000/16,000 blinds and a 2,000-chip ante.
