Benny Spindler wins EPT London Main Event

As one of the most prestigious tournaments in poker the 2011 PokerStars EPT London Main Event attracted a very tough field, with some of the biggest names in poker in attendance. However, in the end the big names would fall by the wayside, and the final table would consist of a group of poker players that were long on talent, but short on name recognition.

One of the more recognizable names at the final table was German Poker pro Benny Spindler, who was amongst the chip-leaders throughout the tournament. Spindler would go on to win the EPT London Main Event, and in the process collect his first major tournament title, and largest payday to date –just eclipsing his previous high of $1.1 million for a 3rd place finish at the 2009 PCA Main Event..

Spindler’s path to the title was far from easy, having to overcome Team PokerStars Pro Juan Manuel Pastor (who would finish in 4th place), as well as a very tough heads-up opponent in US poker pro Steve O’Dwyer.

Spindler went into the heads-up duel with a 2-to-1 chip-lead, and finished O’Dwyer off when the American ran his K-J into Spindler’s A-K.

Here is a look at how the final table participants fared at the 2011 PokerStars EPT London:

1. Benny Spindler — £750,000

2. Steve O’Dwyer — £465,000

3. Andre Klebanov — £265,000

4. Juan Manuel Pastor — £200,000

5. Mattias Bergstrom — £155,000

6. Kevin Iacofano — £120,000

7. Martins Adeniya — £86,350

8. Miroslav Benes — £64,000
