The action was fast and furious at the EPT Grand Finale as players jockeyed for position on Day 1a, and when the dust settled it was a number of well-known poker pros that found themselves at the top of the leader-board.

With a total field of 302 players entering the PokerStars EPT Grand Finale in Madrid, Spain on Saturday –a nearly 50 player decrease from last year when 351 players entered Day 1a in Monaco—the effects of Black Friday are still being felt in poker world, even in live tournaments taking place in Europe!

What we did see was a number of US online poker players taking to the tables in Madrid, as their lifeblood has been cutoff in the United States. And many of these players have put themselves in a great position to make a deep-run in the tournament. Among the players off to a fast start are online poker stars such as Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilinofsky (coming off his recent win at the EPT Berlin Main Event), Allen Bari, Brian Hastings, Lex Veldhuis, and Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro.

We also have two female players in the Top 10 at the end of Day 1a, 888Poker’s Leo Margets, and Team PokerStars player Fatima Moreira de Melo –Liv Boeree also had an excellent Day 1a and finds herself right in the thick of things.

Here is a look at the top 10 chip counts at the conclusion of Day 1a according to the live reporting team:
