The 2016 PokerStars and EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo has been won by Ole Schemion who scooped the  €1,775,500 first-place prize. The €100,000 Super High Roller final table started out with eight players, all guaranteed at least €236,750 in cash.

The final table began with Paul Newey, who  doubled the first two hands, leaving the role of short stack to Ivan Luca. This Argentinian pro poker star, known online as “Negriin”, would eventually be the first to crash out of the game. Next in line to cash out was Sam Greenwood.

With seven players remaining, the Italian player Mustapha Kanit upped the ante to level the playing field. Ole Schemion raised holding kings and was three-bet by Igor Kurganov who had king-queen in his hand. Kanit then decided to four-bet with his queens, but he then was forced to fold to Schemion. He then  called down Ali Reza Fatehi with ace-high in a sizable pot and caused Fatehi to table his missed flush draw with king-four.

The British player Stephen Chidwick was left short when he pushed jack-ten into Newey’s kings. Newey ended up besting Chidwick’s ace-three with ace-king. Kanit doubled after a bluff by Fatehi failed, but it was Newey who would be the next to go. He got it in good against Schemion’s flush draw, but the German player got lucky hitting his flush. Newey had to settle for fifth place, with€485,300 in prize money.

Igor Kurganov bowed out in fourth place with €627,300, so the game was soon down to the final two players after businessman Ali Reza Fatehi crashed out in third place. Schemion and Kanit agreed on a deal right away, also leaving €50,000, the title, and trophy to play for. They agreed and played competitively to give the live stream viewers something exciting to watch. The two started out with Schemion holding a slight lead, and he also took the first big pot, and then called a bluff leading Kanit with just ace-high and lowered his opponent’s stack to just 20 big blinds.

Schemion was waiting with queens and made an incredibly quick calls. He flopped top set, but Kanit picked up a flush draw on the turn to keep things interesting until the final river card. The seven on the river gave Kanit a set of his own, but it wasn’t enough. The Italian player has already won €10,000, €25,000, and €50,000 high roller events on the EPT.

Ole Schemion was left with the trophy at the end of the game. He celebrated his return to live poker with a cash in the €10,000 High Roller and a win in the €100,000 Super High Roller for almost €1.6 million.
