Poker’s best come out for PokerStars EPT London
After two starting flights on Sunday and Monday the 2013 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) London Main Event drew a field of 647, down from last year, but still a strong enough turnout to create a total prize-pool of over £3 million, and a first-place prize of £700,000 – the fourth largest in the history of the tournament. Day 1a of the tournament drew 236 players and Day 1b drew an impressive 411 entrants, with a total of 347 of those players advanced to Tuesday’s Day 2.
Attendance was down for the second straight year at the EPT London: Last year the EPT London attracted a field of 691 players and was won by German poker pro Benny Spindler, who pocketed €750,000 for the win. In 2011 David Vamplew triumphed over a field of 848 players, winning £900,000, and in 2010 it was Aaron Gustavson who won the £850,000 first-place prize after defeating a field of 730 players.
A familiar face was atop the leader-board at the end of Day 1b, as recent UKIPT London Main Event winner Sergio Aido bagged-up the most chips at the end of Day 1b. Day 1a’s chip-leader was poker pro Marc-Andre Ladouceur. Aido is still a threat to pull off the rare back-to-back feat, sitting with over 250,000 chips heading into Day 3, well above the average stack.
By the end of play on Tuesday the tournament was down to just 114 players, with some very notable names high on the leader-board, including Mike “Timex” McDonald, who is currently sitting in 3rd place on the leader-board. Other big names that will be back in action on Day 3 of the PokerStars EPT London will be, Chris Moorman (5th place), Theo Jorgensen (9th place), Viktor Blom, Steve O’Dwyer, Russell Carson, Marcel Luske, David Vamplew, Jason Mercier, Liv Boeree, David Williams, Phillip Gruissem, Toby Lewis, Adam Levy, Peter Jetten, Faraz Jaka, Gaelle Baumann, Leo Margets, Sandra Naujuks, Annette Obrestad, JP Kelly, Juha Helppi, and Ana Marquez.
