The associated Press is reporting that after several hours of interrogation, a suspect thought to be involved in last week’s robbery of the European Poker Tour’s Berlin tournament was released for lack of evidence. The four armed robbers, who made off with an estimated $330,000, are still at large, as is a possible 5th suspect thought to have tipped off the gunmen.

The robbery has sent shockwaves through the international poker world, and has made mainstream headlines around the globe. There are many puzzling aspects of the crime, most notably was the timing. Tournament officials stated the robbers had only a couple of minute’s window to pull off the caper as the money was being transported from the main safe.

Additionally, Spielbank Berlin –the tournament sponsor—had unarmed security guards. Finally, there were a scant few security cameras to capture the scene giving no clear views of the robbers.

Hopefully the lessons have been learned, and tournament officials around the globe will realize there are millions of dollars in cash lying around at these events, and take the necessary precautions.
