Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director made an important announcement related to the 2018 WSOP which takes place at the Rio in Las Vegas next summer. Stewart made the announcement before the commencement of the €111,111 High Roller for One Drop No-Limit Hold’em event that took off on November 4 at Kings Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.

As per Stewart’s announcement, the 2018 WSOP Big One for One Drop high stakes event will take place at the 2018 WSOP and take place between July 15-17.The number of players participating in this event is fixed at 48 players and the WSOP has decided as usual to forgo the buy-in fee which will be donated to the One Drop Foundation. This will be the fourth edition of the Big One for One drop event and it returns to Las Vegas after a gap of four years.

Registrations have already started for the Big One For One drop event and interested players can book a seat by making a deposit of $50,000 before July 1, 2018. The seats for this event will be allotted on a first come first serve basis and the $50,000 is non-refundable.

King’s Casino owner, Leon Tsoukernik paid the buy-in for the €111,111 High Roller for One Drop No-Limit Hold’em event at the recent WSOPE but due to high demand for seats, he chose to give up his place since his casino was hosting the event and decided to donate his buy-in the One Drop foundation. Tsoukernik became the first player to register for 2018 Big One for One Drop event in Las Vegas.

One Drop Foundation Receives Over $20 Million

The partnership between WSOP and One Drop Foundation dates back to 2012 and together they have been successful in raising donations in excess of $20 million. Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil’s started the One Drop foundation with a mission to provide continuous safe water accessibility to poverty-stricken communities around the world. The Big One for One Drop event has contributed approximately $14 million to the overall contributions made by WSOP and the next year’s edition will further boost those donations.

Initially, when the WSOP put together an event with a $1 million buy-in, they received a lot of negative feedback as there were a number of players and competitors who felt that the WSOP’s idea may not work as only a few players would show interest in putting up that kind of money. When the WSOPE made its announcement about conducting the One Drop event at King’s Casino in November, critics again felt that putting together a €10 million event in Rozvadov would turn out to be a failure. However the critics and skeptics turned out to be wrong and the WSOP has turned the Big One For One Drop event into a massive success over the years.

It’s not just the Big One for One Drop that has turned out to be successful but the Little One for One Drop and High Roller for One Drop events have also exceeded expectations and together the three events have generated more than 11,000 player registrations.
