PokerNewsBoy MascotEvery day the poker world is inundated with more news, reports, and gossip, than any of us can read. At PokerNewsBoy.com we understand that there are only so many hours in the day, and only so much time you can set aside to follow all of the stories taking place, so we have come up with the Daily Grind as a solution. The Daily Grind will make sure you don’t miss any of the more obscure poker stories, wrapping up the day in poker in one neat, concise, column.

Today I’ll take a look at a number of stories including a new Ivey Poker pro, Jerry Yang, Group A results from the Party Poker Premier League, and some March Madness talk.

Allen Kessler joins IveyPoker.com

It’s been a while since we updated you on the signings over at IveyPoker.com, but fear not, the site is still actively signing players, with their latest acquisition being Allen Kessler. While he doesn’t have any major wins on his resume, Kessler has plenty of cashes, often squeaking into the money with a short-stack, content with a min-cash. His resume isn’t really the reason Kessler was signed though; Kessler, AKA Chainsaw or Complainsaw, is famous in the poker world for his nitty image and his pension to complain and value-hunt far beyond ordinary human levels. His persona, and crusade to have tournaments remain deep-stacked for as long as possible has turned the “Chainsaw” into something of a cult figure in poker.

Jerry Yang discusses his tax troubles

Not long ago we brought you the news that Jerry Yang was facing some serious IRS tax issues. Last week Yang appeared on Mark Hoke’s Fifth Street Radio and discussed the matter.

In the interview Yang admitted to owing the IRS a large sum of money; making a serious tax error after his 2007 WSOP win. Yang promised 10% of his winnings would go to charity –which it did—but Jerry made the mistake of sending these donations pre-tax.

Jonathan Duhamel wins Group A of the Party Poker Premier League

Three men have punched their ticket to the final table of the Party Poker Premier League VI after the first Group finished their fourth and final heat yesterday. Heading to the final table will be Jonathan Duhamel, Daniel Cates, and Sam Trickett, while Antonio Esfandiari and Scott Seiver will play a heads-up match to be the fourth player from Group A to reach the final table.

1. Jonathan Duhamel — 42 points

2. Daniel Cates — 34 points

3. Sam Trickett — 27 points

4. Antonio Esfandiari — 23 points

5. Scott Seiver — 21 points*

6. (Eliminated) Phil Hellmuth — 21 points*

7. (Eliminated) Marvin Rettenmaier — 16 points

8. (Eliminated) Daniel Negreanu — 16 points

*Seiver won a tie-breaker over Phil Hellmuth by virtue of having the highest finishing position.

Phil Ivey’s Bracket

Next year I will be looking over the shoulder of one Phil Ivey when he fills out his NCAA tournament bracket. Ivey’s bracket has its fair-share of red lines, but overall his predictions have been pretty good as the poker pro chose 11 seed Minnesota, 12 seed Cal, and 12 seed Oregon in the first round, as well as losing only a singled Sweet Sixteen team and ZERO Elite Eight teams.
