Martin Staszko joins Team PokerStars Pro

Martin Staszko’s life has changed a great deal over the past year. First the 35 year-old from Trinec, Czech Republic decided to quit his job as a foreman at a manufacturing plant in his hometown to take on the challenge of becoming a professional poker player. Little did the former chess and darts player know that just a year later he would be one of the most well-known poker players in the world having finished 2nd in the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event.

In doing so, Staszko shocked the world with his calm demeanor –despite playing for millions—as well as his near-flawless play throughout the final table, and now the Czech Republic can call himself a member of Team PokerStars Pro.

Staszko’s WSOP performance is one of the most unlikely and memorable in the history of the game, which was enough to give Staszko that little extra marketability that other WSOP runner-ups have lacked. The Czech poker player Staszko also fits into the current poker advertising campaigns focusing on Eastern and Central Europe.

Staszko becomes only the second player from the Czech Republic to be patched-up by PokerStars (Martin Hruby was the first for you needless trivia buffs out there), and along with the man who felled him at the 2011 WSOP, Pius Heinz, will likely be a big cog in the PokerStars marketing campaigns in Europe.

Staszko has proven he is not a flask-in-the-pan, considering in his 1+ year professional career he has won almost $300k in addition to the massive payday he received for his runner-up finish in the WSOP Main Event.
