Monday Headlines: Poker playing Monks, 2+2 back and more

Poker News BoyOther than the ongoing SCOOP tournament series at PokerStars it was a fairly quiet weekend on the poker front, but we did see a number of “interesting” stories take place, include some South Korean Buddhist Monks getting busted playing poker and drinking (I’ve now seen it all on YouTube), as well as the 2+2 poker forums coming back online, a weekly rant from Daniel Negreanu. So without any more delay here is a look at the stories you might have missed this past weekend.

Negreanu sings Isildur1’s praises in weekly rant

In his weekly rant Daniel Negreanu spent some time singing the praises of his fellow Team PokerStars Pro, and recent back-to-back SCOOP winner, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom. In the weekly vlog Negreanu talks about how Blom “has figured it out” and “now gets it” when it comes to tournament poker, something Negreanu lamented as “dangerous” for the rest of the poker world.

2+2 forum back online Saturday

After two and a half weeks, the message board grinders can finally return home as the 2+2 poker forums came back online this Saturday. The site had been offline since April 26, when a hacker compromised the site’s security, allegedly gaining access to members’ personal information including E-Mails and passwords.

Poker playing MONKS?!?!?!?!?!?!

In the bizarre story of the week it appears a group of Buddhist monks in South Korea were caught engaging in debauchery usually reserved for high school parties. The monks were caught on a secret camera playing poker, smoking and drinking in a hotel room, where according to the tipster (maybe the monk who ratted them out wasn’t invited to the game?) over $875k was at stake in the game! Move over Macau, perhaps Sam Trickett, Tom Dwan, and Patrik Antonius will start frequenting monastaries instead…

Deeb joins Blom as two-time SCOOP winners in 2012

This weekend poker pro Shaun Deeb matched Viktor Blom by winning his second SCOOP title of 2012. Both of Deeb’s wins have come in Stud events:

Deeb’s first win came in the $2,100 Stud tournament where he bested a field of 64 players to win the $41,600 first-place prize. Deeb then won a further $44,200 in Event #19-High, a $2,000 Triple Stud Event this weekend. He now has three SCOOP titles on his ever-growing resume.
