Poker Stars Adds More Multi-Currency Options
Responding to player demand, PokerStars has greatly improved their multi-currency options for real money players. The wild swings taken by the US dollar, Euro, and most other global currencies over the last two years have made calculating exchange rates for poker sites difficult, at some times frustrating players who felt they weren’t getting fair rates.
Most noticeable in the changes is the option to keep all your funds in one of four currency choices, in the USD, CAD, GBP, and Euro. Players are also hoping the AUD is supported in the near future.
PokerStars has also stated they will use the current exchange rate reported by Reuters, though I haven’t seen any strong details as to whether this is done in real time or not. What PokeStars has said is that conversions are seamless and done automatically in player accounts software accounts on request.
PokerStars offers real money tables in USD and Euro only at this time, and have been quoted as saying that they won’t offer actual tables in GBP or other currencies until the Euro tables have hit critical mass. In the short term, while not being a financial expert my understanding is this is going to make it easier for players to make a poker deposit and cashout without risking big losses by using their bank to exchange currencies while cashing out.
Essentially this makes PokerStars the only online poker room to truly offer a global friendly playing experience, I hope to get back to this article with more concrete details in the future.
