PokerStars sets online poker tournament record again!
When Full Tilt Poker set out to break PokerStars’ record for the largest online poker tournament on July 19, 2009 they made two costly mistakes:
* They made the tournament a $5 buy-in
* They capped the field at 50,000 players –the previous record being 35,000
Even with the ‘mistakes’ Full Tilt Poker was able to beat PokerStars record and hit the maximum 50,000 players, but PokerStars was able to organize a $1 tournament in just a couple of days that took place mere hours after Full Tilt’s. PokerStars easily hit their 65,000 player cap with $1 buy-in, and reclaimed the record.
Well, it appears PokerStars wants to put the record out of reach, this time with more planning, a $300,000 guaranteed prize-pool, and no limit on the number of entrants, PokerStars was able to host a whopping 149,196 player online poker tournament on December 27th 2009, easily smashing their own record of 65,000 –and likely keeping PokerStars in the Guinness Book of World Records for many years to come!
The tournament was won by oskar69 who was able to claim the 1st place prize of $50,000 –not bad for a $1 investment!
PokerStars Breaks Guinness World Records Again with 149,196 Entrants in their $300k Guaranteed Tournament
PokerStars have broken the Guinness Book of World Records again for holding the world’s largest online tournament in history.
Ending the decade in high fashion, PokerStars’ $300,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament received over 149,196 takers for the $1 buy in event.
Starting at 14:45 ET on Sunday, over 30,000 people cashed out in the tournament with the victorious “oscar69” taking down the $50,000 prize. The guaranteed tournament went on for hours as massive numbers of online hopefuls were happy to pay the miniscule $1 buy in and become part of history.
PokerStars broke only the same Guinness World Record just month ago when back in July they held a tournament with over 65,000 entrants.
However whilst continually trying to show their dominance as the world’s biggest poker room against ever present rival Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars managed to more than double that record. The massive guaranteed prize pool, zero cost buy-in and holiday season were always guaranteed to coerce large numbers. Over 50,000 players were registered to the tournament 3 days before it even began.
PokerStars even gave away tickets the $300k event for free by providing all players the opportunity to trade frequent player points or even play free satellites to the tournament.
Massive tournaments and cheap entry are just a scintilla of the things that makes PokerStars first choice for poker players however. No other site can match such good value for money on a regular basis; and they provide more poker games, rewards, players and promotions than any other site. Ultimately it’s the best place to optimize your MTT Strategy for the biggest cash payouts!
