Senator John McCainRepublican Senator John McCain was recently caught out by a sharp eyed photographer playing a hand of online poker on his iPhone while debate raged in Congress over U.S. foreign policy. The photo revealed McCain calling a $200 wager while holding over $16,000 in imitation chips. After the photo was published online, McCain subsequently tweeted, ‘Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing – worst of all I lost!’ Despite losing thousands of dollars in fake money, McCain and the press pack could still see the funny side.

The press packsdisposition to give a poker player a break stems from their understanding that the combination of strategy, skill, high-stakes and pure chance in poker is a metaphor for the role of high office itself! Indeed late U.S. president Ronald Reagan compared his dealings with the Soviet Union as like playing serious pokerwith his opponents. Reagan’s whole strategy against the Soviets was to raise the economic stakesof the game, which eventually led to the Soviet system going bust!

You don’t have to be a distinguished senator or the U.S. President to become a poker aficionado. The best online poker websites offer web support for new players, so you can soon be sitting at the virtual table playing for high stakes. However it’s important to find an online poker site that is both trustworthy and competitive. That’s why the attractive bonuses for Canadian players at William Hill Poker combined with free online tutorials and the cast iron reputation of William Hill make it the Capitol of online poker sites.
