Gus Hansen offers Ziigmund some constructive criticism

In a recent roundup of the latest high stakes poker news, Card Player Magazine dropped an interesting quote from Gus Hansen regarding Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies towards the end of the article where the Danish poker pro –who has had his own high-stakes poker troubles in the past– offered up some words of advice for the Finnish poker pro who has been struggling at the nosebleed games for nearly a year now:

“Who do they think they are? John Wayne? I know [Ilari] “Ziigmund” [Sahamies] thinks he can deep stack outplay anyone in the world, but obviously looking at his results he can’t,” Hansen said. “Why do you want to put in $500,000 in a $200-$400 game just to get it all in when you have top set against flush and straight draws. Why do you want to flip a coin for that amount? It seems like players today think the bigger the better, because they think they are the greatest of all time.”

It seems that Hansen has given-up the high-variance deep-stacks games and now favors the CAP PLO games at Full Tilt Poker, has come to the conclusion that when you square off against the best in the world the edges are so small as to be almost non-existent, making variance –and the possibility for tilting, and suddenly going from a very slight favorite to a major underdog—all the more important in your approach to the game.
