Poker Hall of Famers Phill Helmuth And Daniel Negreanu Engage In

The poker industry were treated to a lot of entertainment off the felt as two legendary poker players got into a long Twitter war discussing who was the number one poker player in the world. Phill Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu have already made it into the Poker Hall of Fame and have had outstanding careers with Negreanu winning over $34 million in prize money and Hellmuth earning more than $21 million.

Negreanu Sets Goal For 2018

Hellmuth has won (14) more World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets than any other poker player alive and has been on a roll in August 2017, walking away with three 6 figure cashouts. The Twitter beef started after Daniel Negreanu completed the Poker Masters and then went onto post a series of Tweets stating how much the competition has improved in recent years. Negreanu said that he ranked himself in the top 100 poker players in the world today and had a goal of entering the top 20 before the start of 2018.

Negreanu appeared very humble in conceding the fact that there were a number of poker pros out there who were better than him and that his mission was to continue to learn and grow. It did not appear that he was taking a dig at anyone but Phill Hellmuth took offense with those posts and reminded Negreanu that he is best poker player in the world in no limit Holdem tournaments. Hellmuth also Tweeted that Negreanu had told him in 2009 and 2011 that the current bunch of young poker players were better than both of them – an assumption that Hellmuth disagreed with.

Negreanu Lists Players Who Can Beat Hellmuth

He asked Negreanu to give him a list of poker players whom he thought were better than him at no limit Holdem and Negreanu responded in just 6 minutes with a list of over 35 players. Some of those names on the list include Fedor Holz, Dan Colman, Paul Volpe, Martin Jacobson, Brian Rast and Jason Mercier.

The majority of poker fans sided with Negreanu and appreciated him for being humble. Players like Fedor Holz and Dan Colman have burst on the scene during the last few years and have won a massive amount of money during their short poker career. Holz has won career prize money $24 million than Hellmuth and so has Colman with $28 million.

Hellmuth played down Fedor Holz’s accomplishments by stating that even though he has more prize money, he needs to win in major tournaments like the WSOP and the World Poker Tour. Both poker pros have a point and will be eager to prove themselves right in the coming months.
