While it may affectionately be known as the Land Down Under, there is nothing upside down about the state of Poker play in Australia. Here is a country whose people love their sport as much as they love their highly developed online gaming sector. Poker in Australia – as in America, large parts of Europe and indeed the world – is fast gaining in popularity and building on its ever-swelling local player base.

The best way to gauge Aussie Poker popularity is in the amount of players signing up at online poker rooms, the media hype around poker tournaments and the amount of money changing hands in Poker.

Indeed it is this flurry of Australian Poker players that is cause for celebration. Add in a couple of big-time Poker Tournament winners and it’s clear why Aussie Poker is right up there holding its own among the world’s best. Take Joe Hachem for example – the winner of the WSOP, and a true legend in the Poker World. His mega-stardom has earned him AUS$ millions and he still has a couple of Big Poker tricks up his sleeve. Mel Judah is no slouch in the Poker Arena either and his Poker tournament winnings exceed AUS$2.9 million. Mel has won 2 World Series of Poker bracelets in 7-Card Stud and is also the title holder of the Texas Hold’em World Poker Tour, No-Limit. These folks are a true testament to the skill and depth of Australian Poker stars.
