Tony G to Jungleman: Give me a good deal I’m there
While few people have shown any interest in accepting the heads-up No Limit Holdem Challenge issued by Daniel “jungleman12” Cates, one player who has never shied away from any type of challenge, Tony G, had this to say when a PokerNews mic was thrust in his face:
“Jungle, Jungle, Jungleman… I’m coming after you. I just need a good deal that the G deserves; if I get an appearance fee I’m there. Send me the money and I’ll be there.”
I’m still looking for a real money online casino taking wagers on these heads-up challenge matches!
Now before anyone hops on Tony Gas looking for a handout let’s make it crystal clear that Cates has basically issued a challenge (and in doing so claiming he is the best) where he is offering his challenger no extra incentive –so the challenge is at best neutral EV, since Cates is considered one of the best Heads-up NLHE players in the game.
As other players pointed out in the PokerNews piece, the challenge does not resemble the Durrrr Challenge, since durrrr offered players a 3-to-1 advantage for taking him on: Jungleman is offering only a straight-up match.
Perhaps the best quotes on the challenge match were given by Mike Sexton, who put these challenges in perspective, explaining how players like Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu learned their lesson years ago, having gotten “spanked” in Sexton’s words by offering favorable challenges to their opponents.
