A look at poker’s Triple Crown winners: Jake Cody

One of the most exclusive clubs in the poker world is the Triple Crown –players who have won a World Series of Poker bracelet, a World Poker Tour Championship, and a European Poker Tour Championship. With just four current members, the Triple Crown is one of tournament poker’s greatest accomplishments, and is on every poker player’s “Bucket List”.

Jake Cody joined the Triple Crown club after besting a very tough field in the first-ever $25k buy-in Heads-Up No Limit Holdem Championship at the 2011 World Series of Poker. The win gave Cody two very distinct records that will likely remain intact for quite some time:

* Cody is the youngest Triple Crown winner at 22 years-old, and with age requirements in US tournaments set at 21 this is a record that may hold for quite some time

* Cody accomplished the Triple Crown in a span of just over 16 months –winning the EPT Deauville title on January of 2010, the WPT London title in August of 2010, and the WSOP Heads-Up Championship in May of 2011.

Cody has also won a PokerStars UKIPT title and won Event #2 of the 2011 SCOOP series on PokerStars where he cashed for over $235k. Over the course of 2010 and thus far in 2011 has amassed over $2.6 million in earnings.

My guess is that if a new tournament series pops up Jake Cody will be poker’s first Quadruple Crown winner.
