PokerStars signs November Niner days before final table

It would seem that even Black Friday will not be able to slow down the appeal for online poker sites to sign a November Niner, as it was announced that PokerStars has added the young German Pius Heinz to their Team PokerStars Pro roster.

Heinz is one of the longer shots to win the Main Event (coming off at 11-to-1 according to Matchbook.com) but with the German market starting to open to online poker, the possibility of having the first German Main Event champion on your roster makes PokerStars’ decision to take a flyer on Heinz a pretty solid decision.

Heinz is relative newcomer on the live tournament trail, but in addition to being part of the November Nine, Heinz also final tabled the $1,500 buy-in No limit Holdem event at this summer’s WSOP (bowing out in 7th place and earning over $80k), and was able to win a preliminary event at the European Poker Tour Barcelona series this past August (Heinz won the €1,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem Turbo Bounty event worth $25k).

We are aware of very few of the other November Niners sponsorship deals (Eoghan O’Dea is a Paddy Power Poker pro), and considering the sponsorship ban on many online poker sites it will be interesting to see how PokerStars takes advantage of the exposure, or if they are simply hoping to market Heinz in Germany post-WSOP.
