Filthy Limper kicks-off Vegas Poker Radio era tonight
Tonight marks the first installment of Season 3 of Filthy Limper Radio, but it also marks the beginning of a new era for the long-running poker podcast, and poker radio in general, as the show’s new home VegasPokerRadio.com officially launched this week.
VegasPokerRadio.com launched earlier this week with a simulcast of PokerFraudAlert.com’s “Druff, Drexel, and Vwls, Show”. The VegasPokerRadio website is now fully functional, with forums, blogs, a poker news section, and a live chat section which will be very active during the radio show.
Season 3 will see some new changes to the show itself as well, including the addition of Brandon “Drexel” Gerson as a permanent co-host along with Johnny Sep and Kevin Wright –the show has used a litany of guest hosts in the past and will continue bringing in special guest hosts during Season 3, in addition to numerous special guests ranging from poker players to poker industry experts.
Tonight’s episode begins at 8 PM EDT, and is scheduled to run for 3 hours (although the show could go longer). Here is a look at what you can expect from tonight’s Filthy Limper show:
Season 3 of Filthy Limper Radio will kick-off with the latest controversies at the 2012 WSOP, where we’ll give our take on everything from Championship banners, to offensive Tweets, to rescheduling final tables. Our next topic of discussion will be Brad Booth and his recent troubles, followed by a second WSOP segment where we discuss which players are under and over performing. Our special guest this week will be Amanda Musumeci who finished 2nd in last night’s $1,500 NLHE event at the WSOP, and we’ll wrap up the show with a news segment with Kevin, and a ‘What’s happening in Vegas’ segment with Drexel, where he’ll tell us his greatest Vegas experience.
When I talked to Filthy Limper founder Johnny Sep about the genesis of the show he told the following story: “Filthy Limper was born when I was on my way home from a tournament series in Atlantic City and I spoke on the phone with my partner and former co-host Tim Byrd. We talked about poker for the entire trip and as I got home I thought…. Why not record this and put it on the internet. We started as a hobby but thanks to guys like Kevmath, Sam Gibbs, Brandon Gerson, Pokerfuse, Blind Squirrel and more we became a serious show with a very solid audience.”
After the show received good reviews and became one of the must-listen podcasts, and Sep and his business partners decided to take a big step, which he summed up by saying: “Beginning in June we are expanding our operation and merging with Venom Poker (Mark Gyrglik) and the Brandon Gerson brand to provide a much wider range of content with www.VegasPokerRadio.com.” Sep added, “Filthy Limper will still be doing our show every week and on the same site you will get Brandon Gerson’s widely popular show, a strategy show, a sports betting show, several lifestyle shows. It is an exciting time for us and I look forward to growing our brand(s) and the future.”
Sep’s longtime co-host Kevin Wright explained his involvement with the show, telling me, “I met Tim [Byrd] through poker and we hit it off immediately. From there I was introduced to Johnny and the same relationship occurred. They are two of my closest friends in and out of the poker world. It was an instant yes for me when they asked me to be a part of Filthy Limper. I look forward to every week on the show and discussing great topics and content. My main goal would be to continue to grow with Filthy Limper and expand our listening audience.”
Brandon “Drexel” Gerson is a longtime part of the Vegas poker scene and has hosted poker podcasts for many years, first at DonkDown.com and more recently at www.PokerFraudAlert.com, now Gerson is bringing his radio talents to Filthy Limper and will also host a second show on VegasPokerRadio.com.
