The 2012 Aussie Millions tournament series kicked-off Thursday with a $1,000 No Limit Holdem tournament that will feature two days of registration. Over the course of the 18 day Aussie Millions series a total of 26 separate poker tournaments will take place, including the Aussie Millions Main Event, the $100,000 buy-in Challenge, the $250,000 buy-in Challenge, a $5,000 buy-in Chinese Poker tournament, a $25,000 buy-in “semi-Shootout” tournament, and a $10,000 8-Game Mix tournament that will close out the 2012 Aussie Millions.

Coming right on the heels of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) the Aussie Millions and the PCA are among two of the most prestigious titles in poker, and the tournament series that have sprung-up around the Main Events at both stops have been in competition over the past few years to try and outdo each other –a battle which could be cited as the reason we have $100,000 and $250,000 buy-in tournaments in the poker world.

Party Poker spokesman Tony G recently called the Aussie Millions the best poker tournament series in the world.

Last year’s Aussie Million Main Event winner was David Gorr with the Australian native pocketing the $2 million first-place prize-money. Previous Aussie Millions champions include Gus Hansen, Tony Bloom, Lee Nelson, and Alexander Kostritsyn. With Gorr’s win last year, Tyron Krost’s victory in 2010, and Stewart Scott’s triumph in 2009 the Aussies bring a three-year winning streak into this year’s tournament.
