The WSOP isn’t the only poker tour in the news this week. Not only did we get our first look at the World Poker Tour Season X schedule –the first half of it anyway—but on Monday the long anticipated name of the Federated Sports + Gaming poker league was announced: The Epic Poker League.

With the first tournament scheduled for August 5th, the league now has a name to go along with all of the hype, as well as a new website, www.epicpoker.com, which will be fully launched prior to the first tournament according to the FS+G press release. The website currently contains a countdown clock, a message from league commissioner Annie Duke, a list of eligible players, and the qualification criteria for the Epic Poker League.

“This is no ordinary tournament league,” said Jeffrey Grosman, chief operating officer of FS+G. “Our fields will be some of the toughest in poker history and we expect the competition to be nothing less than epic. In selecting a name that could live up to the players’ incredible skill and talent, epic was a natural fit.”

Players interested in participating in the Epic Poker League can bypass the qualification procedure and win their seat through the $1,500 pro-am satellite tournament:

“Last week FS+G announced its acquisition of Heartland Poker Tour (HPT), which will now produce and televise the first Epic Poker League $1,500 Pro/Am event. This event, open to the public, will generate nine wild card seats into the first $20,000 rake-free Main Event.”

If $1,500 is still out of your price range you can take part in the Palms Casino –the host of the Epic Poker League– Pro/Am satellites for $340 or super-satellites for as little as $40.
