aussie millionsAfter a 15 hour marathon on Saturday the final three players vying for the 2013 Aussie Millions title returned to the Crown Casino on Sunday and it was Malaysian Mervin Chan who came out on top, taking down the title and the $1.6 million first-place prize-money. Chan bested one of the biggest names in poker Patrik Antonius, who finished in 3rd place in the tournament.

This is the first time since 2009 that an Australian hasn’t won the Aussie Millions Main Event. Phil Ivey may not have made the final table (he did finish in the money, and made a deep run before bowing out in 30th place) but he did have a huge presence as two members of Team IveyPoker.com Antonius and Dan Shak finished 3rd and 4th respectively. Another big name at the final table was Asian poker pro Jay Tan, whose Aussie Millions Main Event run ended in 7th place, giving her a $150,000 payday.

This is only the second cash in Mervin Chan’s poker career, and his first came earlier at the 2013 Aussie Millions when he finished 65th in Event #1, an $1,100 NLHE tournament. Needless to say, with a $1.6 million payday Mervin Chan’s life and poker career will never be the same.

Here is a look at the complete final table payouts from the tournament:

1. Mervin Chan — $1,600,000

2. Joseph Cabret — $1,000,000

3. Patrik Antonius — $600,000

4. Dan Shak — $400,000

5. Jarrod Glennon — $290,000

6. David Yan — $220,000

7. Jay Tan — $150,000

$25k Challenge

Another big event on the Aussie Millions schedule was the $25k challenge which concluded today as well. 27 players entered the tournament on Saturday, and on Sunday it was Igor Kurganov who would take home the top prize of $275k, outlasting Phillip Gruissem and Erik Seidel.

Kurganov is a regular on the high-roller circuit and this marks the third largest score of his career, trailing only a massive $1.4 million win in the €25k High-Roller event at the 2012 EPT Monte Carlo event, and a $500k win in the same event at the 2011 EPT London tournament series.

Here is a look at the complete final table payouts from the 2013 Aussie Millions $25k Challenge:

1. Igor Kurganov — $275,000

2. Philipp Gruissem — $187,000

3. Erik Seidel — $125,000

4. Niklas Heinecker — $85,000

5. Fabian Quoss — $51,000

And with that, the 2013 Aussie Millions has come to a close; see you next year!
