PokerStars pro Jason Mercier captures NAPT High-Roller Championsh
In a very long heads-up battle, that lasted nearly 4 hours, Jason Mercier outlasted a very game Sam Stein to capture the PokerStars North American Poker Tour High-Roller title –and the $350,000 that went to the winner.
In what was one of the better heads-up battle in a long-time the two poker pros were up and down in chips and both remained extremely patient and disciplined throughout the heads-up duel. With the onlookers getting itchy for the two players to gamble it up, both were able to stay poised and pick their spots wisely.
The end came just after the dinner break with Stein holding a slight chip-lead over Mercier: Mercier ended up all-in pre-flop with a pair of 3’s against Stein’s A-J. The J-6-2 flop seemed to seal Mercier’s fate, but unfortunately for Stein a 4 on the turn, and 5 on the river, gave Mercier a straight and a massive chip-lead. A few hands later Stein was eliminated and the young Jason Mercier captured yet another major tournament victory.
At the tender age of 24, Mercier now has over $5 million in tournament winnings for his career and if he continues at his current pace will go down as one of the best poker players in history: Yes, he is that good!
