PokerStars Big Game continues to thrive online

Thanks to Black Friday, PokerStars has been forced to pull virtually all of their advertising from the US television market, and this means the loss of one of the most cutting edge poker shows since the advent of the hole-card camera, The PokerStars.net Big Game.

The PokerStars.net Big Game is a high-stakes cash-game, but unlike High Stakes Poker or Poker After Dark, the Big Game features an interesting wrinkle; the addition of an online qualifier that is staked $100k and allowed to keep any profits they earn over the $100k. The unusual format has seen a wide variety of “Loose Cannons”, as they are called on the show, and this strange dynamic has made the games very interesting indeed.

The second Season of the Big Game started off with a big bang, as the appropriately named Gonzales Cannon quickly became the table captain and left the pros reeling on his way to booking a $155k win. Week 2 saw the really interesting story of Jared Huggins, but Huggins proved to be a weak, passive, player and wasn’t overly talkative either, which made for a fairly dull week.

The current episode in the Big Game queue is “Italian Week” where semi-pro Italian player Massimiliano Martinez joins the show as the “loose Cannon” along with fellow countryman Dario Miniero. Martinez has proved to be a thorn in the pros side –especially Phil Hellmuth!– with some very, very, aggressive play and a penchant for bluffing.

You can watch a new episode of the Big Game every Monday through Friday on www.thebiggame.pokerstars.net
