London native wins PokerStars UKIPT tourney
With six of the eight members of the final table hailing from the UK –and a seventh from Ireland– it was a pretty safe bet someone from the British Isles would walk away with UK Irish Poker Tour Nottingham event. In the end it was a 44 year-old plumber who took down the championship along with the £80,000 first place prize-money.
Andrew Couldridge went into the final table in the middle of the pack in terms of chips, but was able to amass a healthy stack after winning a few pots, largely due to hit bet sizing, showing how important bet sizing in poker is, and then managed to eliminate the former chip-leader Owen Robinson in 4th place.
Not long into heads-up play Couldridge eliminated Oliver Schaffmann when Schaffmann’s pocket Nines couldn’t hold up against Couldridge’s Q-4, when a Queen landed on the turn, and to add insult to injury, on the river as well.
The results for the final table were:
* First: Andrew Couldridge £80,000
* Second: Oliver Schaffmann £46,700
* Third: Andros Spyrou £30,000
* Fourth: Owen Robinson £21,400
* Fifth: Graham Giles £16,500
* Sixth: Piotr Majewski £13,200
* Seventh: Nicholas Gavriel £9,900
* Eighth: Gareth Walker £7,600
