The inaugural British Poker Awards took place at the Kensington Close Hotel in London on Monday evening, and the biggest stars of British Poker were in attendance. Voting for the British Poker Awards took place online with more than 3,000 people voting for their favorite poker players in a number of different categories such as Best Cash Game Player, Best Tournament Player, and Best Newcomer.

2010 has seen the Brits virtually take over the poker world, winning an unprecedented number of tournaments around the globe, including taking home five World Series of Poker bracelets. I will also give props to the British Poker Awards for somehow getting Phil Ivey an award, despite his not being British –that we know of!

Some of the big winners at the British Poker Awards were:

* Neil Channing: Best Cash Game Player
* James Akenhead: Best Tournament Player
* Sam Trickett: Player’s Choice; Best Newcomer
* Victoria Coren: Best Contribution to Poker
* Richard Ashby: Player’s Choice; Best All Round Player
* Praz Bansi: Editor’s Choice; Player of the Year
* The Nuts Poker League: Best Poker League
* Phil Ivey: Best International Player
* Chris Moorman: Best Online Player
* The Hendon Mob: Best Poker Forum
