UK Poker Update: New GUKPT Tour Manager, New VC Poker Pro and 888

The past week has been very busy one for poker news editors. While the launch of PokerFives.com Online Training, PokerListings.com’s take-over of Cake Poker, and Victory Poker’s Move to the Cereus Network has stolen the lime light; a number of other smaller news stories have taken place in the UK.

Caesars Brands Opening Operations in UK

First of all, share prices of the UK online gambling group 888 Holdings rose 8% after they received clearance from Nevada regulators for its proposed venture with US Group Caesars Interactive Entertainment.

With news over 888’s merger with Ladbrokes Plc getting a little quiet, 888 Poker is going to be heavily involved with the launch of Caesar’s World Series of Poker and Casino brands in the UK.  Share prices of 888 rose from 40.25p up to 43.5p (+3.25p change) as brokers also went on the record saying that the move has re-opened the door for legalised gambling discussions in the US.

The cooperative nature of the deal, being the first for a foreign operator, has paved the way for new ventures of US based gaming companies.  The recent developments of legalised state gambling in Hawaii, Florida, Iowa, California and Nevada have made many speculators expect to see legalised gambling in the US by the end of 2011 (at least at the intra-state level).

New Poker Pro at VC Poker

VC Poker has signed Roy “The Boy” Brindley to become captain of Team VC and to represent their brand at a range of live and online poker tournaments across the world (including the WSOP in Las Vegas).

Brindley is a professional English poker player, with over $800,000 in winnings, who now lives in Wicklow, Ireland.  Having had previous experiences in greyhound racing, Brindley took up poker in 2001; in 2002 won 7 ranking tournaments (including 2nd in the 2002 World Heads Up Poker Championship).

Brindley has also come 3rd in the 2005 William Hill Poker Grand Prix and won the Betfair Poker Masters of Europe in 2007. He released his own auto-biography in 2009 called “Life’s a Gamble”.

Jeff Leigh Announced as New GUKPT Tour Manager

Jeff Leight has joined the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) as Tour Manage in 2011, having previous held a position as the Senior Card Room Manager at the Vic, London.

The next stop for the Grosvenor Tour will be in Walsall on April 24th.
