The 2009 WSOPE is underway, and it took only one event for the tournament to set a record: The l1,000 NLHE tournament set the record for the largest tournament in London with 608 entrants.

Even with the WPT Borgata main Event going on across the pond –which drew an impressive 1,018 entrants after the buy-in was lowered to a mere $3,500—the WSOPE has kicked off in much the same way as its big brother in Las Vegas did, with big fields, and a lot of buzz.

The impressive fields for tournaments with buy-ins around $1,000 could change the landscape of the preliminary events at major tournaments. The WSOP has already announced plans to add numerous $1,000 buy-in tournaments to the 2010 schedule: The $1,000 Stimulus Special tournament at the past WSOP saw the largest field in poker tournament history besides a WSOP Main Event.
