Golden Nugget and Borgata secure NJ iGaming permits

why-new-jersey-2With the November 26th launch date looming the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has handed out two online gaming permits. The first Permit was awarded to the Borgata, who like South Point in Nevada will go down in the history books as “the first,” and this week the Golden Nugget AC joined the Borgata on the “approved” list.

In all, 37 applications were filed with DGE, including all 12 brick & mortar casinos in Atlantic City.

The Borgata

The Borgata received their New Jersey online gaming permit on October 9, 2013; however, their online gaming partner bwin.party has still not been approved at this time –although it is my opinion that the DGE will be prioritizing the land-based New Jersey casinos in the approval process.

bwin.party spokesman John Shepherd doesn’t seem to think anything of it, indicating that bwin.party doesn’t foresee any issues with their license and plans to launch on November 26:

“This is a big step towards the opening of the regulated market for online gaming in New Jersey next month. We’re working very closely with our ‘blue chip’ partner to launch Borgata-branded poker and casino sites and our partypoker site, which will also offer casino games, on Day 1 of the opening of the New Jersey market. The game is changing and we’re dead set on being back in the game come 26th November.”

Tom Ballance, President and Chief Operating Officer for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa released a statement saying:

“We are honored to receive New Jersey’s first Internet Gaming Permit,” adding, “Borgata and bwin.party are aggressively pursuing our objective of being among the first to launch online gaming in the state,”

The Golden Nugget

After the state issued the Borgata an online gaming permit the expectation was that many more would soon follow, and the second came just a week later, as the Golden Nugget received final approval for their NJ online gaming permit.

The Golden Nugget is partnered with Bally Technologies in New Jersey (which in turn has entered into an agreement with Amaya Gaming, the owners of the OnGame Poker Network) and is expected to launch GoldenNuggetCasino.com and GoldenNuggetPoker.com on Novmber 26.

After receiving their permit, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Golden Nugget AC, Tom Pohlman, stated:

“All players that desire to gamble online deserve a fair and trustworthy experience. Rest assured, that is our customer commitment, and unlike others, we have an Atlantic City land based casino to stand behind our online brand. We are located in the Marina District. Come see us any time.”
