Poker Players Plan UIGEA Protest on June 1
With the clock ticking on UIGEA legislation going into full effect, the online poker community has been pulling together in attempt to show the powers that be in Washington DC just how popular online poker is in the United States.
Basically, the goal of the UIGEA protest is to have every online poker player participate as much as possible on June 1st (the day UIGEA goes into effect) preferably at one of the bigger online poker sites (PokerStars or Full Tilt). Hopefully, a huge turnout can show lawmakers how important online poker is in the country, and the vast number of participants will show them that online poker isn’t simply the domain of professionals and degenerates, but that poker is in fact a part of the very fabric of the United States.
UIGEA legislation does not make playing online poker a crime, this will still reside in a gray area, but it will make it next to impossible for US residents to fund their poker accounts. It imposes strict penalties on financial institutions who process a payment to or from an online gaming site.
So, make sure you play on June 1st in protest of the unjust UIGEA legislation; every single player will count!
