why-new-jersey-2After watching their proposed deal with the Atlantic Club Casino go up in flames –with vicious allegations fired by both sides culminating in legal actions—PokerStars is apparently ready to move on in their quest to reenter the US online poker market, as multiple outlets are reporting that the world’s largest online poker site entered into a partnership agreement with Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City circulated on Wednesday.

The agreement between PokerStars and Resorts Casino Hotel still needs the stamp of approval from New Jersey regulators. The partnership would see PokerStars regain a foothold in the US market after their banishment post-Black Friday, but forces have been conspiring to keep the online poker giant from making any inroads in the burgeoning US market.

Monday, July 1, 2013, at 4 PM was the filing deadline for potential online gaming operators to announce their partnerships and according to early reports all 12 Brick & Mortar casinos in Atlantic City did just that. Several of these potential partnerships were revealed on Monday:

* Caesars Entertainment and their four New Jersey Casinos have teamed up with 888

* Boyd Gaming (owners of the Borgata) entered into a partnership with

* The Golden Nugget has partnered with Bally Technologies

* The Trump Taj Mahal and Ultimate Gaming announced a partnership

And on Wednesday three more partnerships were announced, including the PokerStars and Resorts agreement:

* The Tropicana and GameSys have announced a partnership

* The Trump Plaza has teamed up with Betfair

* Resorts Casino Hotel and PokerStars

This leaves us with just two unknown partnerships, both of which are casinos in the midst of or on the verge of bankruptcy:

  • * The Atlantic Club (PokerStars original partner in New Jersey before their deal went south)
  • * The Revel Casino

After the PokerStars agreement with Resorts Casino was announced both companies issued statements:

“This is another blue-chip partner for Resorts to complete a wonderful series of brands,” Morris Bailey, the Resorts Casino’s majority owner, was quoted as saying.

“Resorts is a fantastic partner for us, and we are looking forward to launch PokerStars in the U.S. in association with the other quality brands Resorts has brought to Atlantic City,” Marc Scheinberg, the CEO of the Rational Group, said in a statement. “We are very happy to invest in New Jersey, and we are excited about building a successful relationship with Resorts.”
