On the same day two licensed online poker sites in Nevada produced some fairly big headlines as South Point Poker’s RealGaming.com website started registering players and Ultimate Poker dealt its 10 millionth hand of online poker since its launch on April 30, 2013.

On the same day that Ultimate Poker dealt its 10 millionth hand one of their competitors took their first step towards launching an online poker room. South Point Poker (which had designs on being the first real-money online poker room in Nevada) is now allowing players to register and go through the verification process on their online poker site realgaming.com.

The preregistration process is a definite signal that the site will be launched in the very near future, and will be the first real competition that Ultimate Poker will face.

The initial play-money software South Point Poker rolled out as part of a beta test was lackluster to say the least, appearing more like an online poker site from 2002 than what players are now accustomed to using. However, with new software, and a new brand name –RealGaming—there are high hopes for South Point Poker in the poker community.

Ultimate Poker deals hand #10,000,000

The first major milestone for Ultimate Poker was reached on Thursday as the site dealt its 10 millionth hand. Ultimate Poker ran a promotion in conjunction with the milestone hand, offering a $5,000 bonus to the player who won the hand –which turned out to be poker pro Steven Kelly. The added $5,000 bonus saw the Ultimate Poker tables swell, with pokerscout.com listing peak traffic at some 700 players; well above what the site is used to seeing.

In all, Ultimate Poker gave away $23,000 during the run-up to the 10-millionth hand, with prizes awarded for a number of milestone hands beginning with the 9 millionth. Kelly, a WSOP bracelet winner, was sitting in a $.25/$.50 No limit Holdem game and took down the $5,000 prize with a mere Ace-high; each of the other players seated at the table received $500.

So far Ultimate Poker has had its run of the Nevada online poker market, as the site has had a three-month head start on all of its competitors. Now that South Point is preparing to launch, with rumors of Caesar’s launching their WSOP.com website in the near future as well, Ultimate Poker will finally be put to the test, and Nevadans will have their first look at what legal, licensed, online poker will look like.
