Australia announces their lineup for World Team Poker
Australian co-captains Antanas Gouga –better known as Tony G – and Jeffrey Lisandro have announced the entire Australian team that will be competing in the inaugural World Team Poker event that will be held in Las Vegas in May.
Long-time tournament veterans Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Gary Benson, Mel Judah, and Marsha Waggoner will be joining Tony G and Jeffrey Lisandro, along with younger players Grant Levy, David Saab, and Stephen Topakas. So, unlike Team USA that I comprised solely of well-known, experienced, poker pros, Team Australia has gone with a mix of the old guard and the new school.
A few notable exceptions from the team include the Hachem brothers, Joe and Tony, and Mark Vos. It’s still unclear how the captains are selecting their teams, and if certain players are declining to play whether for personal or business reasons.
The eight confirmed countries that will be participating in the World Team Poker events are the USA, China, Vietnam, Israel, England, Australia, Brazil, and Greece. The events will be played in a variety of different poker formats, with five players from each country being selected beforehand to represent the team –Captains can substitute players when the game changes to a new poker variant.
