After implementing a fan voting system last year –a process that saw Mike Sexton end up as the lone inductee– the Poker Hall of Fame once again opened up the nomination process to the fans. After the initial nomination period a whopping 181 poker players have been nominated for poker’s highest honor.

Next week the top 10 nominees will be sent to the Nomination Committee for review –you may recall that Tom Dwan was stricken from the list last year for failing to meet the criteria for induction—before being voted on in September by the 16 living Hall of Fame members and a group of selected poker journalists and media members.

One change to the process is that a player no longer needs 75% of the vote; in 2010 50% will see a player inducted to the Poker Hall of Fame. The change was made as an effort to increase induction to hopefully two players instead of the typical lone inductee.

Look for some of last year’s finalists Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Tom McEvoy, Barry Greenstein, Scotty Nguyen, Dan Harrington, and Men Nguyen to be among the finalists once again this go round.
