After shattering the record for the largest WPT tournament in the poker tour’s 10-year history, the 2011 WPT Borgata Poker Open combined the two starting flights from Day 1a and Day 1b on Tuesday, and with plenty of star-power still remaining in the field it was one of the brightest stars in the poker world who would vault into the chip-lead at the end of play: Team PokerStars Pro David Williams.

Williams was amongst the Day 1b chip-leaders and continued to increase stack on Day 2 of the tournament. Other big stacks at the beginning of Day 2 that surged ahead included Vanessa Selbst (315k chips) and recent WPT Legends of Poker champion Will Failla (315k chips), while Day 1b chip-leader struggled to get anything going on Day 2 and ended the day with just 100k chips left in his stack.

While tough to swallow, Madsen’s struggles would have been considered an outstanding day for the likes of Gavin Smith, Hasan Habib, Andy Frankenberger, Christian Harder, Allen Kessler, and Todd Terry, all of whom were shown the exit on Day 2 of the tournament.

When all was said and done, Day 2 of the WPT Borgata Poker Open ended with 170 players still in the hunt, but only 100 of those players will reach the money on Day 3. Expect a very interesting day at the Borgata for Day 3 of the tournament as the tournament will go from 170 players down to just 27!

Here is a look at the top 10 chip counts heading into Day 3 of the 2011 WPT Borgata Poker Open:

1. David Williams – 727,100
