Atlantic City, NJ (Friday, Sept. 24, 2010) – And the hits just keep on comin’ for the World Poker Tour. World Poker Tour congratulates Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa for hosting the largest tournament in the history of the WPT. Borgata smashed their own Season VIII record of 1018 entrants, raising the bar again in Season IX with 1042 players and a prize pool of over $3.4 million. Borgata’s success builds on a WPT season of marked growth. The first two stops of WPT’s Season IX – July’s Bellagio Cup and August’s Legends of Poker at The Bicycle Casino – both saw an increased field over the previous year.

WPT congratulates Dwyte Pilgrim, who bested the enormous field to take down the WPT Borgata Poker Open title and $733,802 after a grueling final table and heads up match against Kia Mohajeri. Pilgrim has been called one of the best “minor league” tournament poker players in the game, earning three rings at recent WSOP Circuit events. He finally got his shot at the big time at Borgata making his first WPT final table and walking away with the title.

“Pinch me is it real? Did I really do this? I feel surreal right now. Like a lifetime of hard work is set in stone today,” said Pilgrim.

“Borgata is one of the east coast’s most lauded casino properties and WPT is proud to return here year after year,” said Adam Pliska, WPT President. “Their reputation as a world-class poker destination always draws a field of big names and the type of brutal competition WPT fans and players have come to expect.”

Last year’s champion Olivier Busquet returned to defend his title alongside WPT 100th Club member Kathy Liebert and former WPT Champions Stan Weiss, Gavin Smith and Roy Winston as well as John D’Agostino, Steve Zolotow, ESPN’s Bernard Lee and Adam “Roothlus” Levy. But no name is bigger to World Poker Tour fans than Mike Sexton. This time the Hall of Famer and legendary WPT commentator crossed the felt to join the field. Earning his first WPT cash and going out in 20th place, Sexton took home $15,009.

“This was a tremendous tournament,” added Sexton. “I had a great time playing with such talented young guns. We’re three for three so far in Season IX – three events with three amazing fields and three exciting final tables. I’m looking forward to the trend continuing next month at Festa al Lago at Bellagio.”

Final Table Standings and Payouts

1st Dwyte Pilgrim – $733,802
2nd Kia Mohajeri – $440,945
