Galen Hall’s unlikely route to WPT Championship final table

The final table for the $25k World Poker Tour Championship is set, and leading the way is 2011 PCA Champion Galen Hall, who after making the final table told Card Player Magazine about his unusual trek to the WPT Championship which began in Madrid, Spain.

Hall flew home to San Francisco after a couple of weeks playing in the EPT Grand Final in Spain only to find himself locked out of his apartment. With a couple of weeks of laundry to do, and no way to get into his home he ended up sleeping at a friend’s house, booking a flight to Las Vegas to register on Day 2 of the WPT Championship, and in the process needed to sell of shares of himself since he had no US currency!

Hall, who not only won the PCA Championship but also final tabled the High-Roller tournament in Madrid and finished the Champion of Champions tournament in 2nd place to Jason Mercier, quickly sold off enough of himself to enter the tournament, and despite being a little jet-lagged –Madrid to San Francisco to Las Vegas will do that to you—finds himself sitting at the top of the leader-board with just six players remaining.

Hall has the opportunity to win his second major tournament title of the year, and winning the PCA as well as the WPT Championship would likely propel the young pro into the upper echelon of poker players –unfortunately for him he is making his name in the worst sponsorship era for poker in recent memory thanks to Black Friday.

Just behind Hall in the chip-counts is burgeoning poker superstar Scott Seiver, with another young star in Justin Young bringing up the rear of the chip-counts. Rounding out the final six is poker veteran Freddy Bonyadi, and two relatively unknown players in Roger Teska and Tony Gargano.

The players will receive a much-needed day-off on Thursday before heading back for the televised final table on Friday –where we will finally learn how the WPT will handle sponsorships and logos on the players. Of the final six players only Bonyadi was “patched-up”, sporting a Full Tilt Poker logo, but between Wednesday night and the start of play Friday I’m sure each player will be approached by some online poker room.

Here are the final table seating assignments and chip counts heading into Friday’s final table:

Seat 1: Galen Hall — 5,095,000
Seat 2: Justin Young — 1,750,000
Seat 3: Tony Gargano — 3,550,000
Seat 4: Roger Teska — 3,600,000
Seat 5: Scott Seiver — 5,075,000
Seat 6: Freddy Bonyadi — 2,470,000
