German wins WPT Spanish Poker Championship
Germany’s Ali Tekintamgac told Card Player magazine that he has been playing poker for 20 years, but only recently decided to go for it and enter major poker tournaments. Well, it appears Tekintamgac made a pretty solid decision, since he recently got his first major cash under his belt –finishing 125th at the EPT Championship in Monte Carlo—and now has his first win to go with it.
Tekintamgac outlasted 325 other players to capture the World Poker Tour’s Spanish Championship worth €315,000, an entry into the $25,000 buy-in WPT Championship at the Bellagio, and a a Tiffany bracelet.
The final table was once again played 9-handed –the typical format for all European tournaments regardless of the tour seems to be 8-players, but the WPT seems to be experimenting with different structures—and featured players from across Europe: Noticeably absent are any US players, although very few made the trip over to Spain.
The final standings and payouts for the tournament:
1. €315,000 Ali Tekintamgac – Germany
2. €160,000 Roberto Santiago – Spain
3. €81,000 Erik Iremark – Sweden
4. €71,000 Manuel Blaschke – Austria
5. €61,000 Mads Hansen – Denmark
6. €51,000 Tristan Clemencon – France
7. €41,000 Emil Mattsson – Sweden
8. €31,000 Bartolome Romero – Spain
9. €21,400 Manuel Cozar – Spain
