Phil Ivey among WPT Bellagio chip-leaders
How sick is Phil Ivey? Ivey registered for the World Poker Tour’s Bellagio Cup VI two days after the event kicked-off –The WPT allowed registration through the first level of Day 3, which many people took advantage of—with a 20BB stack, and is now sitting in 2nd place with 15 players remaining!
Ivey’s stack of 1.8 million chips trails only chip-leader Eric Panayiotou’s 2.4 million chips.
Although this is total conjecture on my part, my guess is that Ivey has some serious side-bet action on the outcome of the tournament –I can just picture him laying odds on his chances of winning the tournament starting with a 20BB stack—and if he does win the payoff would likely be 5-10 times the $875k in first-place prize-money! Why else would he enter a tournament with a 20BB stack?
In Ivey’s way are Maria Ho, Justin “Boosted J” Smith, and Jeffrey Lisandro, but all three are extremely short-stacked heading into today’s action.
Stay tuned to Poker News Boy for updates on Ivey’s progress in the WPT Bellagio Cup VI, as well as any information on prop bets that comes to light regarding Ivey’s performance in the tournament.
