Record-setting win at WPT Spanish Poker Open

Navigating his way through a disappointing field of just 216 players at the WPT Spanish Poker Open was 18 year-old Lukas Berglund from Sweden, whose unbelievable trek saw him advance all the way to the final table with a chance to break the record as the youngest WPT champion in the tour’s 9+ year history.

So how did the young Swede handle the pressure on the final day of the tournament? Berglund would not only go on to win the tournament, but he would do so in a dominant fashion; eliminating all seven of his final table compatriots along the way to the championship! For his efforts Berglund was rewarded with the €206,000 in first-place prize-money, along with an entry into the season-ending WPT Championship at the Bellagio, worth $25,000 –not to mention a spot in the WPT record-books as well as the WPT Spanish Poker Open trophy.

Here is a look at how the final table played out for the WPT Season X opener:

1. Lukas Berglund — €206,000
2. Romain Matteoli — €118,000
3. Frederic Bussot Fuentes — €64,000
4. Jorge Duffour — €47,000
5. Guillem Usero — €40,000
6. Alexander Sidorin — €33,500
7. Artur Koren — €27,000
8. Markus Ristola — €20,200

The next stop on Season X of the World Poker Tour will wait until the WSOP has concluded when the WPT heads to Paris, France in early September.
