WPT Grand Prix de Paris down to 18 players

After three full days of action the World Poker Tour (WPT) Grand Prix de Paris is down to just two tables of nine players each. Amongst the players still in the hunt for a WPT Championship and the nearly €750,000 in first-place prize-money are some very familiar names in the poker world, including Joe Cassidy, Guillame Darcourt, Martin Jacobson, and the current chip-leader Matthew Waxman.

All of the remaining players are guaranteed a minimum payday of $46,896, with the final seven players guaranteed a six-figure score for their efforts.

Darcourt has been on a tear since his impressive World Series of Poker run this year, but the Frenchman is known for his Matusow-like blowups deep in tournaments, so we will have to see how he fares on Day 4.

Jacobson is another red-hot European player, having pocketed over $2.5million in his short career (including an impressive $1.2 million in 2011 thus far) and with three career runner-up finishes in major tournaments (the 2009 WPT Venice, the 2010 EPT Villamoura, and the 2010 EPT Deauville) this could be Jacobson’s time to hoist the trophy.

Here is a look at the Top 10 chip-counts heading into Day 4 of the WPT Grand Prix de paris:

  1. Matt Waxman — 1,120,000
  2. Mikko Sundell — 1,019,000
  3. Dmitry Stelmak — 912,000
  4. Nesrine Kourdourli — 839,000
  5. Byron Kaverman — 729,000
  6. Dori Yacoub — 664,000
  7. Hugo Lemaire — 567,000
  8. Martin Jacobson — 536,000
  9. Frederic Magen — 531,000
  10. Guillaume Darcourt — 500,000
