The tournament was one of the better-attended at the 2013 WSOPE –possibly because of the POY implications—with a total of 80 entries, generating a near €2 million prize-pool.

It appears that the 2013 World Series of Poker Player of the Year award will come down to the €25k High-Roller event that will be decided today. At the beginning of play on Thursday 13 players were still in the running for the title, the prize-money, and the WSOP POY points:

1. Philipp Gruissem — 1,296,000

2. Scott Seiver — 770,000

3. Jason Koon — 702,000

4. Erik Seidel — 610,000

5. David Peters — 538,000

6. Nicolau Villa-Lobos — 527,000

7. Daniel Negreanu — 411,000

8. Marc McLaughlin — 304,000

9. Byron Kaverman — 273,000

10. Timothy Adams — 240,000

11. Phil Laak — 144,000

12. Tom Bedell — 124,000

13. Joni Joukamainen — 113,000

But it didn’t take long for the final table to be reached, and the final nine still had very big implications for the Player of the Year award, including 2013 WSOP APAC Main Event winner Daniel Negreanu, who needs to finish in 8th place or better to secure the WOP POY award –in the process becoming the first player to win the award twice, as Negreanu won the inaugural WSOP POY award in 2004.

Check this space tomorrow to see who is going to become the 2013 WSOP Player of the Year.
