2010 WSOP update: $1k NLHE update & O8 begins
The $1,000 No Limit Holdem tournament looked to be on pace to rival last year’s in terms of entrants after a whopping 2,601 players showed up for day 1a, but day 1b saw only 1,742 players register for the event. Still, an impressive 4,345 players have created a prize pool of just under $4 million, with $625k, and a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet, going to the champion.
After two fast and furious days of poker action 481 players will return to the Rio poker tables today where the money bubble will be busted rather quickly –441 players will make the money. There are still plenty of big names left in the field like Vanessa Rousso, Joe Sebok and Eric Baldwin.
Also getting underway yesterday was the $1,500 Omaha 8 or better tournament which drew an impressive 818 players, some of them being the biggest names in all of poker: Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Tony G and Phil Hellmuth among them. Alas, out of the aforementioned group only Hellmuth was able to advance to day 2 along with 296 other hopefuls.
Day 2 of the 3-day O8 tournament will get underway later today at the Rio Hotel and Casino.
