2011 World Series of Poker inside the numbers

Poker is a lot like baseball in one respect, stats matter! So with 35 events in the books I thought it would be a good idea to take a look inside some of the more noteworthy numbers coming out of the 2011 WSOP –these numbers are accurate through 29 events.

The Women

According to the WSOP, the longest streak between an open-event win by a female player occurred from 1982 to 1996, a total of 221 open-tournaments. The current streak now stands at 199 after 35 events thus far in 2011 –an absolutely astounding figure considering the number of top-flight female players now in the game.

“The overall percentage of females who have entered gold bracelet events is 3.2 percent.” This number always astounds me. Imagine how huge a game poker would be if we could just get to a point where 25% of the field was female!

Age

Here are some interesting age statistics from the 2011 WSOP; numbers I thought would be much lower:

* Average age of all entrants: 36.2 years

* Average age of all players who cashed: 34.9 years

* Average age of all final table players: 33.9 years

* Average age of all winners: 28.8 years

The Winners

Once again we are reminded that while poker may be growing globally, it’s still a US-based game. Here are the winners thus far at the WSOP by country:

* United States (23)

* Canada (4)

* Great Britain (3)

* France (2)

* Russia (1)

* Ukraine (1)
