After a disappointing turnout on Day 1a of the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event the turnout on Day 1b more than made up for the paltry 1,088 players that registered on Day 1a of the tournament. With the final tally coming in at 2,144 players the 2012 WSOP Main Event is now on track to better last year’s turnout of 6,865 entrants IF Day 1c holds to form, and is the largest of the three starting days.

Over the first two starting days the field size has reached 3,180 entrants, a respectable number that is expected to more than double, based on the WSOP officials’ predictions and preregistration numbers for Day 1c.

Day 1b saw plenty of big names take to the tables at the Rio including Daniel Negreanu and the man who handled the “Shuffle up and deal” honors for Day 1b, UFC Champion George St. Pierre (St. Pierre was sent packing fairly early on in the day, suffering a rare knockout outside of the Octagon.

There were also a lot of big name female poker players in the Day 1b field (if 2012 was the year of the Women at the WSOP than Day 1b was the Day of the Women), including roommates, Vanessa Selbst, Vanessa Rousso, and Maria Ho, as well as Amanda Musumeci, Victoria Coren, Liv Boeree, Katie Dozier, Dee Dozier, Christina Lindley, Leo Margets, and of course Shaun Deeb’s Gram Jeanine Deeb.

Among the players that built-up impressive chip stacks were two of the game’s best, and a pair of Team PokerStars Pros, in Vanessa Selbst (who already has a WSOP bracelet to her credit in 2012) and Daniel Negreanu (who is looking to cap-off a horrid 2012 WSOP with a deep Main Event run.

Some other notables that surpassed the 100,000 chip-mark on Sunday were Jason Somerville, Shaun Deeb, Maria Ho, Brian Hastings, Amnon Filipi, Todd Witteles, and Bryan Pelligrino. Here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts from Day 1b of the WSOP Main Event:
